At Frankfurt in Germany, every January there is the biggest international trade fair for home and contract textiles. Now in its 41st year, Heimtextil is the global benchmark for quality design textiles of innovative functionality. And big it is!
To give you an idea of the size it is where over 2,600 exhibitors unveil their latest fabrics and papers for every conceivable surface. The wallpaper hall alone is enough to give you sore feet walking up and down the aisles. Here you get to see product innovations and new designs from a world wide collection of manufacturers and suppliers.
Before we disclose what is happening with wallpaper trends lets review decorating trends.
For over 20 years, Heimtexil has been providing expert analysis on trends via publishing of the Trend Book. This year, Caroline Till and Kate Franklin from British style agency, The Future Laboratory, are responsible for the concept and design of the Trend Book.
RECONNECT is the trend theme with four Reconnect directions selected. These refer “back to nature and roots in Sobriety, to culture, identity, and tradition in Mix Mash. Utility recommits to real values and the art of craftsmanship and Wilderness to the essential, functional and everyday.”
To help describe the trends and a part of the process they collected pictures, samples, materials and more. See if you can work out which of the 4 trends each image represents. The options are Sobriety, Mix Mash, Utility and Wilderness.
Over the next few blogs we will be revealing the 4 trends in more detail and exposing how wallpapers fit into these themes. Or do they?
